Simple search

In the Search tab choose the option Simple search.
  • Type a word, name or other term you want to search for in the search line.
  • Click Search to start the search.
  • The results are shown straight away as a list view in the Results tab
  • Here you can refine the results using the filter options on the left.
  • To view details of a document, click on the short description in the results list.
Tip: You can also enter only a part of a word, or several words at the same time (then there will be looked for records containing all the words).
Note: By default you will search in all indexed fields of the Library catalogue.

Advanced search

Use Advanced Search to compose a specific search.
  • Type the words, names, numbers and years you want to search for in the relevant input fields or use the list buttons
    In a field without a List button, you can enter multiple words, separated by spaces. A search is then made for records with all words in that field.
  • You can indicate that you only want to find documents that are digitally available.
  • Choose the sorting options (field and order). By default, these are set to year of release, from newest to oldest.
  • Click the Search button to start the search.
  • The results are shown straight away as a list view in the Results tab
  • Here you can refine the results using the filter options on the left.
  • To view details of a document, click on the short description in the results list.
  • With the Clear button you can clear all input boxes to enter a new search query.

Using list buttons
Behind some input fields you see a List button . By clicking this button you open the index list of the terms that occur for that field in the database.
You can browse the list using the arrows at the bottom of the list or by typing the first letter(s) of a name or keyword in the Filter box.

Expert search

Use Expert Search to build complex search strategies with multiple words, different fields, and combined via Boolean operators (and, or, not).
  • It is possible to search only in one sub-collection. Click on the arrow at Search in and make a choice.
  • In the search line you can indicate in which field you want to search. To do this, click on the arrow and make a choice.
  • Indicate in the next search line in which field you want to search. That may be a same field as you have already used.
  • You can extend the search with one or more search lines. To do so, click on

  • You can indicate that you only want to find documents that are digitally available.
  • Choose the sorting options (field and order). By default, these are set to year of release, from newest to oldest.
  • Choose the number of records you want to see per page. This is default set to 15.

  • Here you can refine the results using the filter options on the left.
  • To view details of a document, click on the short description in the results list.
  • The Clear button removes all extra search lines and shows one empty search line to enter a new search.

Note: The search lines are executed from top to bottom. This is important when you combine search lines. The result of the first line is combined with the second one, the result of this is combined with the third line, the result of that is combined with the fourth line, and so on.
Tip: You can also use Truncation. This works the same as search with an asterisk (*). Thus, you will search for all occurring endings of a typed word. This option is active by default: if you do not want a truncated search, you must uncheck the box.
Tip: When combining search lines you use Boolean operators “and”, “or”, “not”. The default is “and”. Click on the arrow to adjust this.
With "and" a result must meet both search lines, with "or" a result must meet at least one of the search lines, and with "not" a result must meet the first line but not the second.
Tip: You can delete a search line by clicking
Tip: In the field Year, the equation default is “=”. If you click on the arrow you can also choose “<“ (older than), “>” (more recent), “<=” (that year or older) or “>=" (that year or more recent).
